If you’re a dog owner in Devon, particularly on a working farm or in the countryside, you’ll know just how important it is to have a secure, weather-resistant, and comfortable shelter for your dogs. Whether you have a loyal sheepdog or a beloved family pet, well-built dog kennels is more than just a place to sleep; it’s a sanctuary.
At Blackdown Buildings, we’ve seen increasing demand for timber dog kennels across Devon and nearby areas like Hemyock, and it’s easy to see why. In this blog, we’ll explore why timber dog kennels are an ideal choice for homes and farms across the region.
1. Built for Comfort and Durability
Our timber dog kennels are constructed from micronised high-pressure treated timber, making them extremely durable and naturally weather-resistant. They’re designed to stand up to the harshest conditions Devon can throw at them. Whether it’s a misty morning in the Blackdown Hills or a gusty afternoon on Dartmoor.
We use:
- Lined corrugated roofs for maximum protection from rain and wind
- Galvanised steel fixings and bars for long-lasting performance
- High-quality timber that is Greenguard certified, ensuring low VOC emissions and safe use around animals
This means your dog stays dry, sheltered, and comfortable all year round.
2. Ideal for Working Dogs and Active Pets
If you rely on working dogs, whether for herding, guarding, or fieldwork, a dedicated shelter that meets their needs is essential. Our kennels are suitable for both professional and domestic use, offering enough space and security for everything from border collies to larger breeds.
The robust construction means they are fit for use as a dog kennel for working dogs, even in high-demand environments such as farms or large gardens.
Did you know? Our kennels can be supplied in kit form, ready for straightforward self-assembly.
3. Practical and Attractive for Devon Settings
Timber kennels blend beautifully into rural environments, making them ideal for homes and farms throughout Devon. Whether you’re located in Hemyock, Honiton, or further afield, a wooden kennel sits more naturally in the landscape than plastic or metal alternatives.
Aesthetics aside, timber is also a breathable material, which contributes to improved comfort for your dog, especially during seasonal changes.
